The Northwest Choral Society (NWCS) will embark upon a 4-day road trip starting July 10 to visit Minneapolis – St. Paul, MN. Twenty-four members of the chorus, conductor Alan Wellman and pianist Lori Lyn Mackie will travel by luxury motor coach.
The group will sing in the lobby of the Guthrie Theatre before the scheduled production of My Fair Lady, which the group also will enjoy. Other concerts include the Hennepin County Government Center at noon on Friday, an outdoor concert at Mears Park on that evening and another concert at a senior care facility.
NWCS will sing at evening mass at the Cathedral of St. Paul on Sunday. Between performances, tours of the backstage of the Guthrie Theatre, the State Capitol Building and the Institute of Arts are planned. Also included is the Gangster Tour of St. Paul and the Cave Tour, where the group will learn about the legends of mobster massacres and the ghostly lore of the unique sandstone caves. There is a paddle boat cruise down the mighty Mississippi River, and, of course, a visit to the Mall of America is a must.
The group will return exhausted and filled with memories of singing, camaraderie and fellowship – and ready to begin rehearsals on September 2 for its 2014-15 concert schedule. The Northwest Choral Society invites experienced singers to audition to join the organization.
