2010 Gala Benefit Concert

Gala Benefit Concert to Honor John H. Melcher

In a rare opportunity for the Northwest Choral Society and its loyal audience, a special benefit performance by members of the tour choir of the famed Chicago Master Singers will take place on Sunday, June 27th in Arlington Heights, Illinois.  The choir, under the direction of Alan Heatherington, will tour Germany shortly following the performance, which will include works by Brahms, Bruckner, Biebl, Paulus, Lauridsen and Berger.  The concert is honoring the legacy of Maestro John H. Melcher, NWCS director for over 30 years, who passed away on June 27, 2009.  All proceeds will benefit the John H. Melcher Memorial Fund.

Northwest Choral Society was saddened by the passing of John Melcher, but has vowed to preserve his legacy through the continuation of NWCS and its mission to promote and encourage the appreciation, understanding and performance of a wide variety of outstanding choral literature.   Over his career, John had sung professionally, directed community theater productions, and had served as organist, choirmaster or minister of music at area churches.  John’s commitment to NWCS greatly surpassed these other endeavors in longevity.  His imaginative programming, excellence in choral preparation, skill in arranging and composing, and his ability to work with amateur singers has left the chorus with a legacy that will inspire its continuity for many years to come.  Please join the NWCS and the Chicago Master Singers in honoring John and celebrating his legacy.
