NWCS opens our 2026-27 Concert Season with a program that explores texts from the Book of Psalms – timeless, evocative, prayerful poetic writings which have been a beloved source of inspiration for people of all backgrounds and faith traditions for millennia. We’ll hear music created over four centuries ago by composers like William Byrd and Palestrina, alongside music crafted by master composers of our own time like Caroline Shaw and James MacMillan. We’ll hear American composer Charles Ives’s monumental setting of Psalm 67, and explore the rich sonorities of German Romanticism in Johannes Brahms’s multi-movement work, Schaffe in mir, Gott. Rounding out the program are settings of Psalms from Lili Boulanger, Charles Wood, Franz Schubert, William Mathias, Lucy Walker, and Dave Brubeck.
